40 Days, 40 Nights…It’s Just the Beginning

IMG_0842I’m back! It’s been too long since I’ve written, what better time of year to start back up again, Lent!

Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, the season of Lent begins. I went to Holy Name Cathedral, in downtown Chicago, for the distribution of the ashes, where the thumb of the Priest drew the sign of the cross upon my forehead. I look forward to this time of repentance and continuing to better myself as a human of this wonderful world.

In the past, this is where I give up something like chocolate or soda, but I’m going to try something different this year. I want to become a better version of myself in four main aspects of my life; Physical, Mental, Social and Spiritual. I am dedicating these 40 days and 40 nights to taking care of my body, expanding my knowledge and my mind, reaching out to people I want to get to know as well as those that I don’t want to lose or forget, and finally, to be more in touch with my Catholic beliefs and giving back to the community.

This is clearly a lot to cover in 40 days, it is the beginning of a life philosophy I hope to continue beyond Lent. I am daring myself to follow through as William H. Danforth has dared me in his book “I Dare You!” to be bigger than I am.

He said, “You have a four-fold life to live: a body, a brain, a heart and a soul…these are your living tools. To use and develop them is not a task…It is a golden opportunity.”

So I plan to take this golden opportunity, and along with it I will blog! Let the adventure of self evaluation and discovery begin.
