Twenty-Five: I’m Not Done

Sunnyside up,
Nine pounds and overcooked
A baby girl
was brought into this world

Born into a family of love
Innocent and shy
She believed the age to stay,
was the wise age of five.

Though it couldn’t be stopped
she continued to grow,
with a wealth of interests
and good marks to show.

Three states, two degrees,
moments of pride and moments of shame
adventures and experiences
that only she can claim.

Twenty years later I’ll admit to ye,
that she is me.
Straight up adulting
and halfway to fifty.

The day of my birth,
another trip around the sun.
It all went by so fast,
there better be more to come…

…because I’m not done.

Literary Bucket List

I’ve decided to publish my book collection! Though I am especially proud of my tangible collection…there is something about that raw touch and smell of a book, a novel, the bound pages of a story…I have also included my e-books, audio books and hopeful acquisitions of the future.

The problem with my collection is that I have yet to read all of the books! Any books I have read in the last six years (post high school) I have put in bold, the rest are on my to-read list. As I feel like a fraud for owning such a rich collection of books without having read (or remembering) many of them, I am now considering this my Literary Bucket List.

13 Things To Do When You Are Having a Rough Day

What a week. It has been a very difficult time, but we cannot lose hope! Remember to do the things that make you happy or make you feel at peace. I understand there are certain issues, especially right now, that won’t go away overnight, but you must think of your present self. Soothe every part of your being; mentally, physically, spiritually and socially . Here are a few things I like to do to keep myself sane:

  2. Remember that you are a winner…In the very beginning of your days, you were the one that won the race. You are here on purpose.
  3. Scream. My friends and I find scream therapy very helpful. Scream into a pillow if that’s all you can do, but there’s something about just letting it out. Just don’t scare your neighbors.photo-1472414113715-7cc07153bd86
  4. Sing. In the shower, in the car, while cooking, while walking down the street, in front of an audience at your local karaoke bar…sing, like nobody’s there but you.
  5. Listen to music that reminds you of a good day. The beauty of sense memory. Everyone has a song that they associate to a happy memory, here is mine from Europe.
  6. Run, Dance, Exercise. Endorphins are wonderful, the only addiction you need.
  7. Stretch, do yoga. Try not to think, just focus on your body.photo-1473088555253-cc83bbc5dae3
  8. Read or watch a movie. Put yourself in a different world. We must always face reality but it’s okay to take a small vacation from it.
  9. Write. Put your thoughts on paper. Read them back. Discover how the weight of your problems change over time.
  10. Blog. Put your thoughts out there for the world, within reason 🙂 Ask for feedback if you feel like you want it.
  11. Call your mom or your best friend.
  12. Breathe. In through your nose, out through your mouth.
  13. Be in the present. Nothing matters except for right now. Just be, for a while. Recognize the natural beauty of our planet.

A Note to the Recently Elected

You did it. Check it off your bucket list. America chose you to lead the country for the next four years. As crazy as it is to believe, you are the President of the United States of America.

You are certainly unique to any other candidate, ever. You are unexpected. You are different. You are change. You have confidence in your beliefs.

But don’t you forget, you are the face of our country now. You are the voice of millions of human beings. You may have supporters, but you have so many…non-supporters…

There’s a lot of doubt in your qualifications, not to mention…

The media blows up in concern for what you might do or say. The comments of your prejudices and negative behavior towards humans of your country and those of other countries create disbelief in your abilities to “Make America Great Again.”

We need someone to trust. And to reach that point…well…you have your work cut out for you. My freaking facebook wall and twitter feed is a bunch of angry hate mail addressed to you. I’ll take the food videos, baby announcements, gym pics and the relationship over-shares back.

America voted. Though not everyone is happy with the results, the country did their part. Now you must do yours, prove that you deserve to represent the people. Prove that you care about the well-being of humans, every single one.

This great universe gave us Earth to thrive on. We are one, and who knows how long we have to make this life everything we want it to be.

Please, don’t mess this up.

 

 

 

 

Second Thoughts

Even if you don’t have them for long, everyone has second thoughts about one decision or another in their life.

We use the phrase, “on second thought” to express that we have given something more thought, or that we are reconsidering something.

As fun as it it to be spontaneous, sometimes you have to rethink, reevaluate, etc. Take a second look at your situation… are you happy? If the answer is no, you should be having second thoughts! You gotta think about number one!

Though these decisions we make vary in importance…

“On second thought, I will have that cup of coffee.”

“On second thought, I don’t think I want to go out tonight.”

“I’m having second thoughts on not taking the job.”

“I’m having second thoughts about our engagement.”

…Every decision you make there is the potential for second thoughts. You are a human. We think we know what we want, but we love to change our minds. We think, then we over think … We make ourselves, and others, a little bit crazy. But it’s OKAY!

Hopefully, in the end, you figure out what’s best for you and the situation you’re in and everyone will be better for it.

I encourage the second thought, especially when playing it safe. Give adventure a chance, try something new, talk to that person across the room before they talk to you, learn a new skill, dye your hair, try a new style, order something you wouldn’t normally order,  make the first move. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. Don’t let those once in lifetime opportunities pass you by.

Make yourself happy.
